TEN. STUDIO / Obsolete Art Store Revives Fashion ICON
"Where every story is born, there is a kind of "beauty". When we encounter it, we are touched by it, and our hearts are rippled, and new stories are born." - Akagi Minto
We feature a space renovation project in Spain. Although it is the transformation of an abandoned retro shop, the careful design, and recreation of the design team resulted in beautiful architectural work.
This is an old art store originally built around 1930. It is mainly made of bricks and steel pillars.
The four sides of the original building are covered with plaster layers. The stone paste layer that the space becomes narrow, especially reducing the indoor height in the vertical direction. It also conceals the characteristics of the building itself.
Therefore, the focus of the design team’s transformation work is to clear the excess decoration in the space and unearth the treasure hidden under the plaster. Transformation point 1: Brightness creationIndoor light is a particularly important point in building construction so that the production team used two original windows in the building, we also introduce more light to the 4-meter-long main room.
After transformation, regardless of visual or sensation, it makes the buildings more vivid.
Renovation point 2: Optimize the spatial structure addition to creating a brighter space, the production team optimizes the spatial structure. We use the table as an element to divide the interior space, divided into kitchen area & work area.
The optimization approach:
Place one of the tables in the kitchen area
The other 4 are placed in the work area
Only 5 tables were used in total
The space rectification is well carried out
There are also 4 small tables in the upper meeting area. The employees can freely splice according to their needs. The size of the table can be changed at will as this eliminates the need to set up another large table for better and efficient use of space.
Modification point 3: Utilize raw materials used in the renovation plan are mostly wood for the furniture, kitchens, shelves, and storage cabinets. For the steel, we used it for the frame of the house, tables, stairs, and upper floors
This transformation not only used the original windows to make the space brighter. We also used the table to distinguish the area as it maximizes the use of the venue.
