Office Lighting Design and Technology - EDS Interior

Statistics show that more than 70% of people work in the office for beyond 6 hours a day. Good office lighting not only makes the office more appealing but also directly affects work efficiency. Adequate lighting can make employees feel more comfortable. It can also reduce the productivity error rate and relieve eye fatigue.

1. The office lighting guide

(1) The use of light effectively divides the space in the office
For example, bright and cold lights used in the office area and warmer lights used in the leisure area or in the pantry create an implied separation of space.

(2) The shape of the light guides the movement of people.
When the light is embedded on the ground or wall or when structured with a long bar shape, it provides instructional cues. If the light is placed closer to the steps or stairs, it reminds the employees to pay attention to safety. It also makes the stairs more three-dimensional and stylish.

(3) Good lighting creates a focal point.
The size, shape, and color of the light create contrast with the surrounding area. A slight difference is highly noticeable and should be addressed promptly. Lighting is also more efficient when combined with a wall sticker or a catchword

2. The right lamp creates an efficient office atmosphere

(1) Strip light fixture

The desks in most companies have a rectangular design. In this case, it is recommended to utilize strip lamps (e.g. flat panel, panel lights, linear lights). These uniformed lights produce brightness that is not too overwhelming and reflective.

(2) Round lamps

Most of the leisure areas generally have round lights. The light level here is soft, providing a more relaxed mood. Moreover, the round shape also softens the atmosphere compared to the light fixtures with sharp corners.

3. Intelligent lighting and digital control features

(1) The digitized lighting equipment application

The LIGHT ADMIN App can be used to configure the lighting equipment. The building structure can be accessed in the app. Fixtures can also be connected and digital tools maximized for the easy management of lighting needs.

(2) Parameterized configuration through EnOcean or Bluetooth technology

The LIGHT ADMIN App, equipped with TALK modules, allows lamp parameterization. Likewise, multiple lamp settings may also be personalized. If the office area needs to be modified, adjustments can easily be made through the LIGHT ADMIN App.

(3) Digital image of the building structure

The application supports the inventory of all lamps in the building. The building structure can be stored in the app where individual lamps may be assigned per area. An Excel file may be exported for the lamp system records. A password can also be added through the app to prevent unauthorized persons from accessing the lamp configuration.

For the benefit of employees who spend most of their day in the office, a well-designed lighting system is a must. Good lighting enhances the mood and desirability of the space. Worker satisfaction, productivity, and health can be positively affected by proper illumination. Just like natural light, it should be comfortable, evenly distributed, bright but not too glaring. Understanding the lighting requirements of an office space can have a great impact on the concentration, energy level, alertness, and attention span of each office worker. With all of these in mind, it is safe to say that lighting is one of the most important factors to consider in having a happier, healthier workplace.
